Review - NYAD

 Nyad (Movie review)

--Netflix
When everyone is going ballistic over Dunki , which IMO is such an uncreative , poorly written, researched , acted and directed movie , one tends to make a mistake of missing out on hidden gems. Nyad is one of them!
Nyad is the story of resilience and strength. It is about a certain woman named Nyad who wants to swim from Cuba to Florida - 103 miles straight, in shark infested waters , poisonous and life-threatening jelly fish , cold cold temperatures and nasty water currents , which can fuck your course over in a jiffy and crush you like tin cans. Well , Nyad wants to do all of that at 60 years of age. She has the unwavering support of her dearest friend and long time partner Bonnie , in this journey.
Nyad fails a number of times , sometimes she's on the brink of death, sometimes she has hallucinations and she breaks down , but what doesn't break is her resolve and her fascination with the challenge.
Will she meet her desire or her maker ?
Jodie Foster has done a whacking great job of portraying the character of Bonnie who is at times too logical in backing out and then at times she's this weak human ridden and infested by emotions.
Annette Benning as Nyad is terrific. She's vulnerable, and at times extremely foul and repulsive. She has built the character without being stagey.
Rhys Ilfans , as usual doesn't disappoint and is a treat to watch.
Don't miss it !
