Auzzie!

Things you say Down under
1. No worries : It can mean anything from
"You're welcome" as in a response to " Hey mate , thanks for saving my life"
" Don't worry about it" as in a response to "Sorry I kicked your ass"
"It's all right" , as in a response to "I am a few cents short for the coffee "
"Sure thing" as in a response to "Is it okay if I pay with a smile instead of cash"
"No worries" is something which you can say if you can't think of what to say.
Although "No Wucka’s" is the more Aussie way of saying that.
2. Mate : Australia is about "Mateship" so everyone is everyone's mate ,
"Oi mate , watch your cake hole" it can be a covering word to sledge , if used correctly.
3. Jimmy Grant : Is a slur for an immigrant
Caution: use carefully
4. Barbie: An emaciated modern doll? .... Nope!
It's short for BBQ which is again short for something.
" Slip a shrimp on the Barbie" , ironic, since they will never settle for a shrimp , and rather have prawns.
5. Accadacca : Australias own AC DC band , they rarely listen to anything else (even my 9 year old nephew will listen to accadacca 7 times out of 10)
6. Shark biscuit : Kids on the beach. Now wonder !
7. Stubby holder : It's actually a thing to hold your "stubby" or a bottle of beer.
8. Tradies : Handy men like electricians, plumbers , construction workers and others.
9. Lollipop men : Well , it's a highest paid job for people holding a STOP/GO round sign post on the road while it's being fixed.
10. Roo : You should know what it is !
11. Shit for brains : An extremely stupid person.
12. Straya : Australia
This is only a months worth of gold right there.
A general rule is to speak through clenched teeth to stop flies from getting in your mouth and abbreviate everything so that you save time for that cold stubbie!

 The Crown  --Netflix I remember vividly, when I was in school we had to write an inspiring or often mundane quote on the black board , every day! Often we struggled to find a good one to go on the top. There was no internet ,no smart phones, computers or abundance of information channels, from where we could pull it off and display it as "extensive research". Mostly it would be trips to the library and digs into Shakespeare, Dickens , Shelley , Keats or Byron , for crying out loud! It's another story that most of the times those trips turned out about stealing centrefolds of Maradona, Baggio , Steffi or Edberg, from"SportStar" magazine. I remember once writing "A faint heart never won a fair lady" (which now I realise was so wrong on so many levels) and getting mixed responses from various teachers when they had their period.   #TheGreatIndianKitchen -- Amazon prime video फेमिनिसम! मला या उक्तीची ओळख अगदी हल्ली हल्लीच झाली असे म्हणायला हरकत नाही. काय होतं फेमिनिसम माझ्यासाठी? मानवाधिकार, मानवी हक्क संरक्षण इत्यादी पश्चिमात्य विचारधारांप्रमाणे भारतात आश्रयास आलेल्या चैनी पाश्चिमात्यांच्या विघातक व विद्रोही सवयी. लहान असताना माझ्या आई वडिलांना सगळी कामं वाटून घेताना खरंतर मी पाहिलं होतं पण बहुदा ही कामं तुझी (म्हणजे माझी) नाहीतच , तू अभ्यास कर या परिस्थितीजन्य फर्माना किंवा प्रेमापोटी मी ती कामं किंवा स्वयंपाक करण्याच्या भानगडीत कधी पडलो नाही, अभ्यास मात्र केला. शिवाय त्यावेळी जवळच्या नातेवाईकांच्या किंवा शेजारी-पाजारी आवर्जून, पुरुष अथ वा स्त्रीसत्ताक प्रणालीच नजरेला जाणवली.  5 Feb 2024 Ignoring abuse is a crime! दोन एक आठवड्यापूर्वीची गोष्ट.स्थळ वेस्टेंड थिएटर समोरचा SGS मॉल. दोन मित्र आणि मी , त्यांची खरेदी संपवून बाहेर थांबलो होतो. साधारण 5pm ची वेळ आणि त्यात weekday असल्याने गर्दीही तुरळकच होती. बाहेर रिक्षावाले आपली रिक्षा लायनीला लावून गप्पा मारत उभे होते. शेजारीच दोन तीन भिकारी पोरं काहीतरी विकत होती. म्हणजे purse बिर्स असं काहीतरी. बाहेर येणाऱ्या बायका पोरी त्यांचे probable गिऱ्हाईक! सहसा मॉल मध्ये खरेदीला आलेला व्यक्ती क्वचीतच असं बिन ब्रँडी माल घेते हे माझं generalisation. त्यामुळे त्या पोरांना मार्केटिंग साठी थोडा जास्तच effort घ्यावा लागत होता. त्यातच एक दहा बारा वर्षाचं पोरगं एका बाईला विनवणी करायला लागलं, म्हणजे तिला हात लावून "मॅडम लो ना , सस्ता देता हू" वगैरे आणि तश्यात तोल जाऊन ती बाई पडता पडता वाचली. तडक एक समाजसेवक रिक्षावाला तावातावाने आला आणि त्या कवळ्या पोराचं बकोट पकडुन त्याला सौम्य शिवीगाळ करायला लागला.ते पोरगं पण रस्त्यावरच वाढलं होतं. ते पण उलट उत्तरं देत बसलं आणि शब्दाला शब्द वाढत गेला आणि काही समजायच्या आत त्या समाजसे...
