Satyajit Ray was a prolific movie maker and a gifted writer and it was after my school days that I had read his "My years with Apu" which had led me to watch his movies which I had found utterly boring then.
A definite time had to pass before I could fathom the value that Ray and his movies possessed. Kurusawa had a similar impact, but him, later!
When some modern production house wants to churn out short films out of Ray's short stories , they have to impart justice to the legend and at the same time make it sellable by contemporarising them so that they are likable and eligible by being lustfully devoured.
They have achieved that partially, I would say.
The four short stories slightly lean towards bizarre human values and their eccentricity , some are vengeful , some are pure guilt and dark humour , and one's outright stupid (spoiled by the stupid lead)

 The Crown  --Netflix I remember vividly, when I was in school we had to write an inspiring or often mundane quote on the black board , every day! Often we struggled to find a good one to go on the top. There was no internet ,no smart phones, computers or abundance of information channels, from where we could pull it off and display it as "extensive research". Mostly it would be trips to the library and digs into Shakespeare, Dickens , Shelley , Keats or Byron , for crying out loud! It's another story that most of the times those trips turned out about stealing centrefolds of Maradona, Baggio , Steffi or Edberg, from"SportStar" magazine.   #TheGreatIndianKitchen -- Amazon prime video फेमिनिसम! मला या उक्तीची ओळख अगदी हल्ली हल्लीच झाली असे म्हणायला हरकत नाही. काय होतं फेमिनिसम माझ्यासाठी? मानवाधिकार, मानवी हक्क संरक्षण इत्यादी पश्चिमात्य विचारधारांप्रमाणे भारतात आश्रयास आलेल्या चैनी पाश्चिमात्यांच्या विघातक व विद्रोही सवयी. लहान असताना माझ्या आई वडिलांना सगळी कामं वाटून घेताना खरंतर मी पाहिलं होतं पण बहुदा ही कामं तुझी (म्हणजे माझी) नाहीतच , तू अभ्यास कर या परिस्थितीजन्य फर्माना किंवा प्रेमापोटी मी ती कामं किंवा स्वयंपाक करण्याच्या भानगडीत कधी पडलो नाही, अभ्यास मात्र केला. शिवाय त्यावेळी जवळच्या नातेवाईकांच्या किंवा शेजारी-पाजारी आवर्जून, पुरुष अथ वा स्त्रीसत्ताक प्रणालीच नजरेला जाणवली.  5 Feb 2024 Ignoring abuse is a crime! दोन एक आठवड्यापूर्वीची गोष्ट.स्थळ वेस्टेंड थिएटर समोरचा SGS मॉल. दोन मित्र आणि मी , त्यांची खरेदी संपवून बाहेर थांबलो होतो. साधारण 5pm ची वेळ आणि त्यात weekday असल्याने गर्दीही तुरळकच होती. बाहेर रिक्षावाले आपली रिक्षा लायनीला लावून गप्पा मारत उभे होते. शेजारीच दोन तीन भिकारी पोरं काहीतरी विकत होती. म्हणजे purse बिर्स असं काहीतरी. बाहेर येणाऱ्या बायका पोरी त्यांचे probable गिऱ्हाईक! सहसा मॉल मध्ये खरेदीला आलेला व्यक्ती क्वचीतच असं बिन ब्रँडी माल घेते हे माझं generalisation. त्यामुळे त्या पोरांना मार्केटिंग साठी थोडा जास्तच effort घ्यावा लागत होता. त्यातच एक दहा बारा वर्षाचं पोरगं एका बाईला विनवणी करायला लागलं, म्हणजे तिला हात लावून "मॅडम लो ना , सस्ता देता हू" वगैरे आणि तश्यात तोल जाऊन ती बाई पडता पडता वाचली. तडक एक समाजसेवक रिक्षावाला तावातावाने आला आणि त्या कवळ्या पोराचं बकोट पकडुन त्याला सौम्य शिवीगाळ करायला लागला.ते पोरगं पण रस्त्यावरच वाढलं होतं. ते पण उलट उत्तरं देत बसलं आणि शब्दाला शब्द वाढत गेला आणि काही समजायच्या आत त्या समाजसे...
